I went through my old trusty Valentines box and pulled out some garlands made long ago. I dug through the cards as if I were at an archeology dig, the layers of cards made by hands little and hands big... noting the changes in handwriting and artistic technique. Heavy sighs, teary eyes.

I am filled with memories and resolutions. Reflective and thankful. I wish I could choose what things move forward in time and those that I could preserve. Between the calendar new year and the lunar new year, I find the suspended time. I write lists, buy calendars and look at photos. It all gets put in bundles and wishes. If only my children would slow down.

Wishful Thinking

I can't even remember where I came across this link but it sure does conjure up some mixed emotions. My husband's first reaction was, "You wish your pieces were that big!"....true. The original is 60"X 48" which isn't small but colossal would be excellent. Then there's the whole wishful thinking of having a piece in a space like that and the sadness and doubt that silently sneak up into one's mind. Well, it still looks pretty, albeit virtually.

I recently went with my children to the local botanical gardens and had some fun with my pictures of the koi pond. I am hoping to use some of my images for some upcoming artwork.

Getting in the Spirit of Halloween

Well, it finally feels like fall in the hill country of Texas. I used to go apple picking every September while living in South Carolina and really embracing that fall harvest experience but since moving here -- and back to Indian Summers -- its all about Halloween! In other words, it goes: Summer, my birthday....Halloween. And Halloween also encompasses Day of the Dead for our family. So here's a few treasures from 2005. And yes, for those of you who are weary....I do need some new images on my new computer! And some new work would be even better.....

I've been feeling a bit nostalgic here lately...so illustration friday's memories theme is pretty perfect. I'm using an old piece. No apologies about it! Because its perfect to use an old piece when you are talking about memories. This one encapsulates two things that I have been pining for here lately and that's old friends and my boys when they were young. It's an entire life that sits quietly in my memory of South Carolina. It's not so much that I miss South Carolina but the friends we had there. Plus, my children...they are just growing up too fast.

I have decided that I need to work a bit more on my logo. After looking at it for a while I have come to the conclusion that the eyeball is a bit too high school goth...you know at this time. And I think I might actually like a different perspective better or I may trash the whole thing. I am woman hear me waver.

The List

The List has been made. These are things I want. Some of them are small and simple while others are huge, perhaps extravagant. But it is just a list of things I would like to have. Now the idea is to make a piece of art, of some sort, that correlates to the item on the list. It should be something of the same value and of the same subject matter. Then if and when I sell that artwork I will purchase the item it relates to. Trading is also allowed!

Staying true to the list will be important! (Maybe I should have added a cart of groceries and a tank or two of gas.) After all, this experiment is about fruition. Fruition and correlation.

In two years, I will put it all together in a book, the artwork and the purchased item along with the story that hopefully goes with it.

New Project

Today I started a new art project called Here In My Arms. It begins with a list! A list that will be followed by paintings, art pieces and the like that are items from the list. Then the pieces will be put forth into the world for sale.

That's all for now! More details when I have the "list" ready for display...then I will explain its importance and purpose; also that of the items.

In my recent travels to California I gathered some pictures for future work. This is the trailer my sister and I lived in for a year while my dad was building our house. It will be gone soon, sort of eaten by progress. You can see the waves of it in the background lined by implanted palm trees.

This piece is about the chakras of Hermes. His hat partial hides his third eye yet proudly displays his lotus crown. His heart is in his throat, making it hard to talk and this is most unfortunate for a delivery boy.

Art Outside 2007
April 2007 was really cold in Austin, Texas.

I did a show in the Enchanted Forest called Art Outside. Hang your art in the trees and enjoy the creek, the music, and the people watching. I had only been in Austin four months when I did this show and I felt like more of an observer than a participating artist.

Juggle

Juggle. I love Fall. It is a beautiful season; I've been thinking about it a lot. So...I thought that in my random sketches for Illustration Friday I would honor this coming season.

The original thought for "juggle" was one that would resemble my life. In fact, the word juggle sort of struck a chord in me, or is it cord? I'm always juggling my life. However, it kinda felt nice to think of it lightheartedly, which is something I rarely do. Well, without sarcasm anyway.

Is it sarcasm that is cheap or skepticism?

Anyway, I like the heals in the roots. So it goes on.

This Dormouse was created for a charitable donation. He sleeps contently in his sugar bowl. I wish I were comfortable enough to sleep anywhere and at anytime. These days I only half sleep. I do find time for a good cup of tea with a friend, however... and yes, we are mad!
